Bangladesh vs Ireland: A Preview of the Upcoming ODI Series in England

The Bangladesh cricket team are scheduled to tour England in May 2023 to play three One Day International (ODI) matches against the Ireland cricket team. The ODI series will form part of the inaugural 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, which will determine the qualification for the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

The series will be a crucial one for both teams, as they are currently placed at the bottom half of the Super League table. Bangladesh have played 12 matches so far, winning six and losing six, with 60 points. Ireland have played 15 matches so far, winning four and losing 11, with 40 points. Both teams need to win as many matches as possible to secure their place in the top eight, which will guarantee them a direct entry to the World Cup.

The series will also be a rare opportunity for both teams to play each other in ODIs, as they have only met 12 times before in this format. Bangladesh have won eight of those matches, while Ireland have won four. The last time they played each other was in May 2019 in Dublin, where Bangladesh won by six wickets.

The series will begin with the first ODI at Chelmsford on May 9. The second ODI will be played at the same venue on May 12, followed by the third ODI on May 14. All three matches will start at 10:45 AM local time (3:45 PM Bangladesh time).

The squads for both teams have been announced, with some notable changes and additions.

  • Mrittunjoy Chowdhury and Taijul Islam have replaced injured pacers Taskin Ahmed and Nasum Ahmed in the squad.
  • Ireland have named Andrew Balbirnie as their captain for the series. Lorcan Tucker will be their vice-captain and wicket-keeper for the series. They have also included some young and promising players like Fionn Hand, Matthew Humphreys, Thomas Mayes, and Ben White in their squad.

The series promises to be an exciting and competitive one, with both teams looking to showcase their skills and improve their rankings. Cricket fans can follow the live scores, updates, news, and highlights of the series on ESPN.com
